Lower Fields Primary School
Nature area
Lower Fields Primary School has extensive grounds which they are using to extend their classrooms into an outdoor activity centre.
A neglected nature area was transformed as part of the E Schools project as well as development of a horticultural area.
Cathy Fowler works at the school, facilitating the weekly gardening club and supporting school staff
with outdoor sessions. She also oversees the management of the outdoor areas.
Facilities include:
- Nature area - with mixture of habitats such as woodland, pond, log piles, wildflower meadow, grassland and bird hides
- Willow tunnel
- Amphitheatre
- Outdoor classrooms
- Geology trail
- Human sundial
Horticultural area
This contains grow beds for the whole school, an air-flow tunnel, a fruit orchard, a cottage garden bed, annual beds, herbs and soft fruit.

Gardening Club
Meet Mondays after schools and the children are involved in a variety of tasks from growing
vegetables, flowers and trees to maintaining the school's nature area.
Despite the bad weather this year, they won six prizes at West Yorkshire Organic Show for their Fig, potatoes, tomatoes, cucumber, crab apples and carrots.
