Miriam Lord Community Primary - Consultation Day! 15th October 2011.

Hello to everyone in the Manningham area!

15th October 2011 event.

Miriam Lord Community Primary are holding a fun consultation for the local community to help decide how they will develop their new patch of land on Drummond Road. The school will be allowing community access to this area of school ground and are keen to find out what you think of their plans!

Greengates Primary - 28th Sept

September 2011 - Another school back to work after summer!

28th September: Today the Year 2 children at Greengates Primary indulged in a little weeding with Habitat Heroes - the raspberry canes and other fruit bushes had become justa tad overgrown in dock and grasses over the summer! A bit of hard work has started the process of getting them back into shape, as well as creating a new comfrey patch and a general 'tidy up' in the nature area. Good to get back into it, the children were excited to be back outside and digging!

Thornbury Primary - Thursday, Sept 15th

September 2011

Summer holidays over, back to the action!!

Savills and British Land volunteers lend a hand at Miriam Lord Community Primary

Miriam Lord Community Primary and Habitat Heroes would like to thank a team of 14 volunteers from British Land and Savills for their huge contribution to transforming the Drummond Road site on the 5th August. As part of the long-term development of the disused site, given to the school recently by the council, the volunteers gave a day of their time to build new paths, clear litter and create a fantastic, secluded woodchipped den for the school children to enjoy.

Habitat Heroes Shipley

Habitat Heroes has recently gained support from Shipley Area Committee to deliver our programme to 6 schools in the Shipley area over the next year, starting immediately...so the search is now on for schools from this area to join us in improving their grounds!

If you work at a school in this area, and we haven't already been in touch with you, please ring Colin in the BCEP office on 01274 223236 to find out more or to express your interest.

Many thanks to Aspect Forestry!

Habitat Heroes would like to thank Aspect Forestry who are kindly donating log piles to the project. We use these logs in the schools to make habitat piles so that children can study minibeasts as part of their lessons.

These also add to biodiversity in the grounds. Many invertebrates rely on decaying wood as their habitats. With the 'tidying up' of  parks, woodlands and gardens, decaying wood and therefore this habitat becomes more scarce. One solution is to have small 'habitat' piles in out of the way corners of school grounds and gardens.

Update from Habitat Heroes...New web pages

As promised, the Habitat Heroes page is continuing to develop...we now have sections offering a few examples of the kind of improvements Habitat Heroes can help develop on schools grounds, along with some attractive new pictures! Drop by our Grounds Improvements page for a look around.
