Feedback
"Your staff and expertise have made a positive difference to the learning we now can offer our children in the outside environment.”
The following are feedback comments from those involved in the Habitat Heroes process; children, teachers and volunteers. We gain feedback from children throughout sessions and at the end of sessions, from teachers through service evaluation and after sessions and from volunteers after action days.
From Children
“I have enjoyed today because a change from working inside, and you can be more independently with your pair.”
“It was fun, one of the funnest things in our whole lives”
“I liked the fact that the trees we have planted will be part of the school’s grounds for many years to come.”
“I enjoyed looking at the birds in the school grounds because usually when you are outside at school, you are running around and making a noise and not looking but I liked looking carefully at them.”
“I enjoyed today [building minibeast hotel] because I learnt things I didn’t know before. I learnt about how different minibeasts live in different places.”
“I never knew that I liked gardening before I did this! Now I want to do lots at home.”
When asked the following question:
“How is learning outside different from learning inside? Where do you think you learn better?”
Children replied:
“I think its better outside because you can have fun whilst learning. You can see the nature all around you and find new things.”
“We all agree that learning outside is far better than inside. My reasons for this is because, outside, we have a larger area to learn in.”
“It’s a more open area and we like it better outside because you can see what you’re learning about. It’s a bigger space and you can do more activities.”

Feedback from Teachers
“Year 6 were writing newspaper reports in literacy and one of the pupils decided to write an article about the 'events in the bog garden.' Fantastic!!”
“All the children have been very proud of their particular efforts and talk about what they did, point out the minibeast hotels, etc. and I often see them having a look around to see who's lodging there....They are also, with odd exceptions, looking after the outside environment more carefully, because of the decisions they have made and the input they have had.”
“One of the great things has been the number of children who have worked on the project.”
“The work completed has been superb and really made a difference.”
“The pupils of the school will continue to benefit from the work... A huge thank you from pupils and staff.”
“It is good for children to see that volunteering to help in your local community is something working adults are able and willing to do.”

Business Volunteers
Habitat Heroes works regularly with business volunteers, with teams creating a large number of the features planned for school grounds. Here is some feedback from participants in our volunteer activities.
"We all had a fantastic day. It was really beneficial to be able to give something back to the community and a great opportunity for our team to spend some time together outside of work!"
“It was a thoroughly enjoyable day – manual labour in the open air, glorious views and the knowledge that the work we did has a lasting value.”
“I would be very keen to take part in another volunteering day for this organisation.”
“Great team work starting from a blank canvas and ending up with a new curved path and raised planters. A job well done!”
