Habitat Heroes

Aim: To increase, and sustain, the involvement of children, young people and the wider community in their natural heritage.

Habitat Heroes does this through:

  • Minibeast Hotel: A Minibeast hotel created by the children at Heaton PrimaryEnhancing their awareness and understanding of biodiversity.
  • Embedding biodiversity in the formal and informal curriculum of schools and community learning opportunities.
  • Practical creation of habitats in the school grounds leaving a legacy for the future.
  • Promoting enjoyment of wildlife areas.

This 3 year programme is working with schools in Bradford encouraging children to explore nature through sessions on biodiversity and improving the wildlife value of their school grounds. Environmental education supports the National Curriculum and helps schools continue to use the outdoors as a resource. Funded by the Abbey, with contribution from Bradford Council, this is a partnership with Bradford Environmental Education Service (BEES).
