Habitat Heroes
Aim: To increase, and sustain, the involvement of children, young people and the wider community in their natural heritage.
Habitat Heroes does this through:
- Enhancing their awareness and understanding of biodiversity.
- Embedding biodiversity in the formal and informal curriculum of schools and community learning opportunities.
- Practical creation of habitats in the school grounds leaving a legacy for the future.
- Promoting enjoyment of wildlife areas.
Habitat Heroes builds on experience gained in the Eschools pilot and developes an agenda that actively involves the whole school community in recognising, understanding and linking the biodiversity and natural heritage of the area to the school grounds. In order to achieve long term change Habitat Heroes works closely with the schools to ensure they recognise and take full advantage of the role that natural heritage plays in delivering an exciting and interactive curriculum, and that habitats created in the school grounds are used and maintained to their full potential.
