Butterfly Soup
Aim: to deliver high quality Forest Schools sessions to children and young people across the district.
The term Butterfly Soup refers to the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly. At the beginning of this process, the caterpillar enters a chrysalis in order to be protected during the transformation. During this transformation the caterpillar becomes a liquid or 'Butterfly Soup', before being re-assembled as a butterfly.
We are currently funded by Lloyds TSB to run sessions with children and young people out of school time. The sessions are aimed at children and young people who have a disability and/ or challenging behaviour but we aim to be inclusive
Butterfly Soup will aim to deliver a huge range of outdoor activities as part of the Forest Schools program, both to develop new skills and improve team work in an outdoor setting. These sessions can include:
Bushcraft
- Animal Tracking
- Fire building
- Cooking
- Shelter construction
- Woodwork
- Story telling
These sessions will take place in wooded areas in and around Bradford which will help to teach children important skills that can be used in their local areas. The sessions will also help show them that such green areas exist, even in urban environments such as Bradford.
Benefits: There are several benefits gained by taking part in Forest Schools sessions in green environments. These include:
- Increased Environmental Awareness
- Great Physical Health benefits
- Improved Mental Well-being
- Increased Social and Emotional Skills
- Increased Solo Learning in participants
