The Greenway

The Greenway in east Bradford had become a neglected public space due to regular anti-social behaviour including joy-riding and vandalism. These elements had led to many different approaches to restrict access on to the space, but had resulted in a mixture of bollards and fencing that had no continuity and looked unsightly.

The UDT were brought in by Bradford Community Housing Trust (BCHT) and Bradford Vision to stop the degradation of the site and help claim it back for the local residents so they could feel safe in using it once again A number of plans and solutions were drawn up and problem areas identified.

A completed entrance to The GreenwayA completed entrance to The GreenwayThe result was a series of entrances with rocks and chicane fencing systems that prevent vehicular access whilst allowing wheelchairs, buggies and pedestrians through. Since work was completed in March 2005 the feedback from the residents has been brilliant and the local police have been impressed with the reduction in anti-social behaviour.

Future works include a new lighting system and possible seating areas at certain points along the space.
