Holmewood Nursery School
Posted by cud, August 8th, 2008
Holmewood Nursery School was a newly built school, constructed on an exposed hill top with fenced off play areas but no other features.
Holmewood BEFOREUDT produced a plan for the communal play space to enhance its use. Construction was carried by BCEP trainees.
There is a now story telling area defined by a sleeper stockade, with a throne in the middle, gabions with different fillings, fragrant cushions of herbs, a series of willow tunnels for shade and to emphasise a path joining all the smaller play areas together.

Play equipment includes a multiuse play frame, small wigwam, covered sand pit and bespoke brick water feature.
Plants were selected with emphasis on colours, and were laid out in colour coded beds. Some new trees were planted to provide more structure to the space, create shelter from the wind and hide unwanted views.
