Recently a reporter from the Telegraph and Argus visited one of our women’s groups and was very impressed with what she saw. This is what she said:
Harvesting mustard greensA group of women are spreading the word about homegrown food after learning how to sow and harvest their own crops.
Members of Grow Organic, based at Scotchman Road allotments in Manningham are passing on skills they have learned to family and friends, after planting their own seeds, harvesting them and using the produce to cook family meals.
The women have been attending the weekly sessions – which began about two years ago – to learn about gardening. They have grown potatoes, courgettes, onions, runner beans, artichokes and peas.

Azmad Bibi said: “There are seven in my family and it is great to be able to feed everyone with what I’ve grown.”
Farida Jan said: “It is amazing how one potato can give you 25 more. And one artichoke gives you another 20.”
