Many thanks to Aspect Forestry!

Habitat Heroes would like to thank Aspect Forestry who are kindly donating log piles to the project. We use these logs in the schools to make habitat piles so that children can study minibeasts as part of their lessons.

These also add to biodiversity in the grounds. Many invertebrates rely on decaying wood as their habitats. With the 'tidying up' of  parks, woodlands and gardens, decaying wood and therefore this habitat becomes more scarce. One solution is to have small 'habitat' piles in out of the way corners of school grounds and gardens.

Thanks also to Aquabirths for the kind donation of old birthing pools, which have been used to create a bog garden at Green Lane Primary - giving them a new lease of life surely no one could have predicted when they were made!

We are always looking to reuse items that would otherwise go to waste as a part of the programme and would welcome any contact from businesses or individuals who would like to see their waste transformed into a wonderful learning and biodiversity resource....so if you have anything you think might be useful then please get in touch.

A few ideas: Materials for bog/pond lining, old bricks with holes in them, pallets or bits of wood for minibeast habitats or bird boxes, soil for earthworks, wood chip for paths and mulching....give us a ring/email and we'll see if we can give it a new purpose in life!
