Letting children go back to nature - environmental play in Bradford. WASPS programme launched

Bradford Community Environment Project (BCEP) would like to announce the launch of its programme - WASPS (Wild and Safe Play Spaces). Funded by the Big Lottery Fund’s Playful Ideas programme, the WASPS team are engaging children in natural play activities in their local green spaces.

Participants are encouraged to explore and play in spaces such as parks, community spaces and woodland in order to build confidence and encourage positive use of outdoor spaces. Sites used by the WASPS team are generally public spaces and therefore open for use by participants once sessions finish running.

The range of activities supported are only limited by participants imaginations - examples include things such as den building, fire making, storytelling and arts and crafts. Activities are tailored to each group and a flexible approach is used to meet the needs of the children and young people. Groups can book a single session, or a series of sessions – its up to you!

"I’m really excited about this project! Through the opportunities we can provide, children will develop confidence and independence. Sessions will help instil a respect for the local community and environment. Most of all, it’s great fun!" said Jen Scott, Environmental Playworker.

This free service is available to any children’s group (0-18 years old) in the Bradford District. For more information contact the WASPS team on 01274 223236.
