Bradford Community Environment Project was 10 years old on 6th February 2006
Bradford largest environmental charity celebrated its 10th birthday this year. Started in 1996 BCEP has steadily developed a suite of environmental programmes to help make Bradford a better place to live, work and play. Whilst the trustees and staff appreciate there is plenty of work still to do in Bradford, they are also happy to celebrate BCEP’s achievements to date.
The charity has brought over £2 million into the district during the past 10 years and now boasts a staff of 25 environmental workers engaged on 9 very different environmental programmes. Whilst responding to local community needs and requests for assistance, BCEP has developed strong working relationships with other environmental organisations in the district as well as the Primary Care Trusts, Bradford Council, Bradford Vision and local businesses and schools. The quality of BCEP’s programmes has resulted in it being asked to present at national conferences by groups such as the Black Environment Network (BEN) and the Women’s Environment Network (WEN).
To launch its celebrations, materials produced as part of BCEP’s
Sustainable Futures programme (supported by the Big Lottery Fund) were
exhibited at Cartwright Hall from
18th February to 23rd April as part of the Home Grown Talent initiative
run by Bradford Council.
The exhibition was well attended by over 16,000 visitors.
