September is just around the corner.It's almost time for the summer holidays to finish and back to school! Which means it will be time for Scrap Magic to be back into the swing of things.

From Tuesday 7th September we shall be open again(Tues-Thurs 10am-1pm).

Also from September we are changing the set up in Keighley for the hubs. We will now be at 3 centres, which are:

A lot of work has been carried out by the Allotment Officer on the Scotchman Road allotment site to make it more inviting to new tenants. This has been so successful that there is now a waiting list! Recently Jane Robinson, who heads up the BCEP Grow Organic team, had the bright idea of reclaiming a neglected area of the site.

BCEP publishes first set of Social Accounts

Social Accounting and Audit has been developed over the last 15 years working closely with organisations within the community, social economy and public sectors.

Social accounting is the process of collecting information about the activities an organisation carries out which affect its stakeholders. These activities may be intended ‘outputs’ or just the day to day internal operations.

Organisations do not exist in a vacuum and the impact they have on their environment can be measured in three ways; triple bottom-line accounting.

BCEP gains Investors In People status again!

Where does the time go, it is three years since BCEP first gained recognition as an Investor In People. To retain the quality mark BCEP was re-accessed by Grant Hamilton of Yorkshire and Humber Investors In People on the 19th of July and I am pleased to announce that his assessment was favourable.

Here are some highlights from the Assessment report:

“As previously discussed ongoing development is also excellent and inherent in everything the Organisation does in order to meet the needs of the people and community which it serves.”

Scrap Magic Summer Holidays

Its the summer holidays but Scrap Magic will still be open!

We will be open for normal hours in the following weeks;

W/C 26th July
W/C 9th August
W/C 16th August

We will then be back open as normal in the week commencing 6th September.

BCEP Grow Organic Film played at Channel 4

BCEP were recently invited down to the Channel 4 studios in London to view a showing of BCEP’s 5 minute promotional film of the Grow Organic programme. This was a Media Trust event to launch Series 6 of the Volunteer Films. As part of series 5 BCEP were teamed up with Leeds based production company True North Productions by the Media Trust, the result is the short film highlighting the broad reach of BCEPs food related work and the enjoyment and inspiration that clients gain from the work.

Playweek 2010: Our Place

In the first week of August brings an exciting week of events for children and young people across the Bradford district.

These are the Playday events were groups providing play across Bradford come together for a big event to provide a wide range of activities for children to access free of charge.

Playday is the annual celebration of children’s right to play. Playday is a national campaign where, each year, thousands of children and young people get out and play at locally organised events.

Junk Percussion Performance at the Mela

This June saw a fantastic performance from Bradford Action for Refugees childrens group at the Mela!
The percussion show was performed using only junk materials. These were sourced by Scrap Magic and with Adventurous Play Experience staff they were helped to transform them into percussion instruments.
Musical expertise was provided by Bradford Education who worked with the children over 8 weeks to put together the performance and practice ready for the Mela.
