Balsam Bash on the Aire

BCEP and BTCV have co-operated to organise a conservation volunteers day on Thursday 24th July down at Hirst Weir on the River Aire. Responding to a request from Bradford Amateur Rowing Club (BARC), BCEP called in BTCV’s volunteers to help halt the spread on Himalayan balsam up the river. This pernicious and smothering invasive plant has colonised significant stretches of the Aire. BARC has been waging war on the invader for many years and buoyed by their success to date has decided to up the anti and launch a major assault on the balsam.

BCEP Reduces Carbon Footprint

BCEP has signed up with renewable energy supplier Good Energy for all its electrical energy needs at its head quarters at Carlisle Business Centre.

Good Energy source all their energy from renewable sources. They are the only 100% renewable electricity supplier in the UK.

The easy move to 100% renewable energy is estimated to reduce BCEP's carbon footprint by a tonne of CO2 a year. The equivalent to not driving 2,500 miles in a petrol engined car.

WASPS update

Since launching in October 07 we have been able to give the children of Bradford a plethora of oppurtunities to increase their play experiances.  We recently undertook some work at St Ives with a local primary school, were the children built dens, developed stories, created small rafts and examined the natural habitats of mini beasts. All the children showed great enthusiasm even when occasionally the weather turned bad and everyone had to hide under the shelter- it all added to the fun!
